Before you begin acquiring your homeschool materials that you have determined by reviewing your study objectives and goals, some thought should be given as to what type of learning style is your child.

For example, if your child is a visual learner then you will want to pursue a more audio/video type of learning format. Or, if your child has more of hands on trial and error learning style, actual tangible objects in which to touch and feel may constitute what you look into. Again, as mentioned in other articles, the best most retentive learning comes from solid motivation, and motivation is generated by interest level. Whichever the scenario, it is your job to keep the lesson plan and the homeschool materials relevant to the educational process. Sure, the learning experience must be interesting and fun, however, it must also remain relevant and not just playtime. Having said that, you must also avoid just busy work within each homeschool unit study as this type of learning activity detracts from the overall purpose of the unit itself.

“By definition…. Or rather history… the history of testing would indicate that the reason that we test was/is to determine the students level of understanding of the given material that has been presented over a specified period of time in the classroom. Homeschool testing is quite different though. Certainly, when one teacher is assigned to teach anywhere from 15 to 30 students, testing as it is now is probably the most efficient way to accomplish this goal.

The homeschool class is different though. Very few parents stand before their kids and lecture with the expectation that the kids diligently take notes! At least I hope youre not doing that!” - continue reading about homeschool testing

“Are you and your children cut out for home school? Homeschooling your own child has its advantages and disadvantages, but with total control you have the flexibility to teach your child values that cannot be taught in a public classroom.
Your home school curriculum can also incorporate your own religious and moral beliefs, something that no one but you can teach your own child. By taking control of a childs education a parent can shape that childs value system better than any other way.
It is not necessary to have a teaching degree or to even be a college graduate for that matter. Although it is a tremendous responsibility to teach your own child the education they will receive from a concerned parent will be much greater than they can get in a public school system. And if you dont feel comfortable with some of the harder subject materials its possible to hire a tutor for those classes.” - more on do you have what it takes to run a school home …

Have you ever ran into, or know someone that just seems to run circles around you in terms of how organized they are, how they get so much done during the day, all events they seem to have going on with their children and families, even their kids seem smarter than yours! Or, any number of things.

We all have and we all will meet or run into these people again. Its inevitable.

If you are new to homeschooling or just starting out, you will, no doubt put high expectations upon yourself both as a teacher and a parent. Early on you will feel as though you hardly get anything done during the day because you spend much of your day researching homeschooling lessons and ideas trying to make sure you get everything just so. And as each day goes by and each day you feel as though there arent enough hours in the day to address everything that is on your to do list, you may begin to feel a bit uncertain about your decision to homeschool. Always feeling as though the people that you read about have accomplished so much, while you feel as though you accomplish so little…

Before jumping into all the decisions surrounding the actual teaching and homeschooling of your child such as: what curriculum, what books, what materials, the home school calendar, organize this, organize that…. Before you do any of that first get familiar with with this bit of homeschool information…..your states home school laws, rules, and other regulations. Some states are quite easy and others require much more work. The HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) is a great place to start. Legally you do have the right to homeschool your child. Just make certain you comply with the individual states regulations. “ - More homeschool information …

As parents, each of us want’s what is best for our children. You wouldn’t be at this site if you didn’t want the absolute best for your child… because homeschooling certainly isn’t chosen because it is easy. Is a home school the best for your child? I certainly don’t know. If you are already homeschooling, what curriculum, materials and home school philosophy are best? Each of us, both parent and child, has been created 100% unique. No two people are carbon copies. And as each of us (and our children) is unique, each of us has differing strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. Figuring out the best educational choices for your child is a complex matter… not to be taken lightly.
